Mazda has trimmed its compact hatchback to one body style and one engine for the 2027 model year. In the UK, the Mazda3 Saloon will no longer be sold, leaving a 10-model line-up made up only of hatchbacks when the updated car arrives later this year.
Revealed at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show, the Mazda3 takes its silhouette from the 2017 Kai Concept and was named World Car Design of the Year 2020.

Mazda3 engine and transmission choices
Every version now uses the 140ps 2.5-litre e-Skyactiv G engine, which combines cylinder de-activation with Mazda M-Hybrid mild-hybrid technology. Jeremy Thomson, Mazda Motors UK Managing Director, said the unit “blends excellent torque and driveability with strong efficiency”.
The UK grade walk runs Prime-Line, Centre-Line, Homura, Exclusive-Line, Homura Plus and Takumi. Apart from Prime-Line and Centre-Line, each grade can be ordered with a manual or automatic gearbox. Aero Grey paint is also offered on the hatchback for the first time.
Safety and equipment across the grades
Entry-level Prime-Line cars gain evolved Smart Brake Support, Emergency Lane Keep and Blind Spot Monitoring with increased functionality, while Driver Monitoring is now fitted to all models. Inside, gloss black trim surrounds the gear lever and cup holders.
Centre-Line and Homura versions get the same active safety upgrades. The Exclusive-Line adds gunmetal grey decorative panels and tilt adjustment for the driver’s seat, and its Adaptive LED headlights carry a new internal chrome decoration.
New Homura Plus and the Takumi flagship
Building on Homura specification, the new Homura Plus brings 12-speaker BOSE audio, black leather seat trim, power seats, gunmetal and gloss black interior panels and a 360-degree view monitor. LED signature lighting sets it apart on the outside. Takumi remains the range-topping model.

Mazda3 sales and UK arrival
UK sales began in May 2019 and, including the saloon, have reached 28,664. More than 180,000 have been sold across Europe, and global production has passed 1.5 million cars.
The updated range reaches the UK later this year. According to Thomson, it arrives “with no price increase from the previous model year”.
