Alfa Romeo has published research showing that 60% of daters are experiencing dating app fatigue, and that 44% of UK daters would rather agree to a date built around a shared experience, such as a drive or day trip, than a traditional dinner and drinks date. The survey of 1,000 UK single people actively dating was conducted by OnePoll in September 2026.
Alongside the findings, the brand has partnered with dating and relationship coach Kate Mansfield to create Guida all’Amore, a guide to dating in person that includes five of the UK’s most romantic road trip destinations.

What the Alfa Romeo survey found
Almost half (49%) of respondents would prefer to meet potential partners more naturally. A scenic drive is the preferred date idea for 35% once they know each other, and 35% believe a shared experience is more likely to build an emotional connection, compared with 24% who would choose dinner. A spark or sense of chemistry remains important for 86%.
The research also points to women wanting more say. Of female daters, 91% said it was important to be able to shape or change a date plan, and 52% said knowing they could leave easily would help them feel comfortable, compared with 29% of men. Making their own travel arrangements mattered to 42% of women, while 60% would prefer to plan a date together.
Guida all’Amore dating guide
Mansfield specialises in helping women move from app-based dating towards connections in real life. She said real-life dating “works best when it feels less like an interview and more like an experience you are sharing.” Jules Tilstone, Managing Director, Alfa Romeo UK, said the research suggests singles “are now looking for a more authentic way to connect.”
