Premium SUVs tailored to North American customers will come from a new Audi plant at the Middle Georgia Mega Site, the brand’s first production site in the United States. The German carmaker intends to invest around $4 billion in the project and expects it to create approximately 4,500 jobs.
Building work is scheduled to begin in 2027. The factory is designed for an annual capacity of up to 200,000 vehicles, and production is planned to start in the early 2030s.
Why Audi wants to build in America
As the world’s second-largest premium market, the United States offers significant growth potential for the brand. Local production forms part of a wider strategy built around customer needs, the product portfolio and a more competitive business model, with the aim of making North America a third major pillar of the production network alongside Europe and China.
Gernot Döllner, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI AG, said the company had “much greater ambitions for Audi in America” and had not yet realised its full potential there. “This is about building a stronger Audi business in America, not only about building a factory,” he added.
The Georgia plant and its workforce
Georgia was chosen for its investment-ready site, skilled workforce, established automotive supplier network and logistics infrastructure. The Mega Site also leaves space for future expansion.
According to Gerd Walker, Board Member for Production and Logistics, starting from scratch lets the company design efficient and flexible processes and develop a local supplier network. Beyond the 4,500 planned jobs, the investment is expected to create work for suppliers, service providers and training partners in the region. Georgia Governor Brian P. Kemp welcomed the decision as another defining moment for the state.
Europe remains Audi’s industrial base
A larger presence in North America is meant to make the business more balanced and to reduce exposure to trade and currency risks. Germany and Europe will remain the industrial backbone, with the new plant complementing the existing network.
Today the Audi Group operates in more than 110 markets, manufactures at 21 sites in twelve countries and employs more than 88,000 people. Construction in Georgia is set to begin in 2027, with the first vehicles planned for the early 2030s.
