Held at Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand from 27 to 29 October, the 11th edition of the aftermarket trade show drew 4 519 visitors, 317 exhibitors and 298 conference delegates. Messe Frankfurt South Africa organised the three-day event, which combined business matchmaking, technical exchange and industry dialogue.
“Automechanika Johannesburg is where the automotive aftermarket turns ambition into action,” said Michael Dehn, managing director at Messe Frankfurt South Africa.

Visitors and product interest at Automechanika
Exhibitors covered parts and components, repair and maintenance, electronics, accessories, tyres and wheels. Along with local attendees, visitors came from Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Germany, China, India, the United Kingdom and the United States.
Parts and components accounted for 45% of recorded product interests, with diagnostics and repair next at 14%. Electronics and connectivity, as well as dealer and workshop management, each took 9%.
Investment and the Automotive Incubator Highway
A fully attended CEO Breakfast opened proceedings, with discussions on localisation, skills, investment and African trade. Dehn used the gathering to announce plans for an Automotive Incubator Highway connecting African markets and supply chains, and invited governments, associations and businesses to take part. Siphamandla Ndhlovu, Head: Industrial and Manufacturing at Nedbank Business and Commercial Banking, noted that turning the opportunities in components and the aftermarket into growth “takes investment, expertise and strong partnerships”.
Conferences and the MIWA SpannerTorque Pavilion
The programme included the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport’s regional conference, the Automotive Remanufacturers’ Association Tech-Talk Conference, and sessions hosted by Goldwagen and Global One Automotive Southern Africa.
In the MIWA SpannerTorque Pavilion, 12 independent aftermarket companies and organisations gathered, among them Bosch, GUD Holdings, Hella, ZF, Diesel Electric, MANN+HUMMEL, Right to Repair, Launch, Green Drive, Abes, Workshop Pro and Backdraft Cobra. There, visitors watched a vehicle being built from the chassis upwards, with components assembled and dismantled to show how it is constructed.
