Showcasing a new approach to special protection in the luxury sedan segment, BMW has revealed the Concept 7 Protection. The concept vehicle is designed for private and corporate customers and organisations that want protection suited to their risk profile while keeping the comfort, appearance and handling of the series 7 Series.
It sits below the BMW 7 Series Protection, rated at protection level VR9 with VPAM 10 as an option, and the BMW X5 Protection VR6. BMW says both actual and perceived threat levels have increased in recent years, and it is responding with clearly defined scopes of protection, testing to defined standards and full certification of the complete vehicle.

BMW Concept 7 Protection armour and certification
The concept complies with the new BayB standard and is designed to protect against selected, particularly common handgun ammunition such as 9×19 mm and .44 Magnum. It addresses everyday, situational or highly unpredictable risks, including violent attacks and attacks during road travel. Blast protection requires vehicles with a higher protection level.
The bulletproof glass is substantially thicker than that of the comparable series vehicle, and the doors carry ballistic steel and fibre-reinforced composites that cover the overlaps between doors, glazing and bodywork. A layer of steel and composites sits beneath the standard panoramic glass sunroof, so its sunblind remains permanently closed. The bulkhead and rear wall are also part of the ballistic protection.
Plug-in hybrid drive and chassis tuning
The vehicle is based on technology from the BMW M760e xDrive, which pairs a 3.0-litre six-cylinder in-line petrol engine with an electric motor in the eight-speed Steptronic transmission and xDrive all-wheel drive. Combined output is 450 kW/612 hp with 800 Nm of torque. The chassis, brakes, drive and driver assistance systems are calibrated for the added weight of the protection features.
Interior and security features
The cabin uses Smoke White BMW Individual Merino Leather, Alcantara trims and a BMW M Anthracite Alcantara headlining, with sun protection glazing, electric sunblinds and a digital interior mirror. An intercom system allows communication with people outside while doors and windows stay closed, and an attack alarm triggers visual and audible alerts. The side windows operate electronically but cannot be fully opened.
The concept also debuts the BMW Individual rear console with a foldable table, wireless charging tray and cool box, which will be available on BMW 7 Series vehicles in the second half of 2027.

Availability of the BMW Concept 7 Protection
BMW says the concept gives insight into a possible expansion of its protection portfolio, drawing on more than 45 years of experience. The initial focus is on selected European markets, and further information is available at www.bmw-special-sales.com.
