Unveiled at the 2026 Paris Motor Show, the 2 CV Concept from Citroën is an electric reinterpretation of the original 2CV that previews a production model the brand will reveal within the next two years. The car is set to join the Citroën range by 2028.
Rather than recreating the 1948 original, the brand set out to imagine a small, practical electric car for everyday short journeys. Citroën CEO Xavier Chardon said the aim was “reinventing what made it unique: its simplicity, its accessibility and the freedom it offered.”

Size, weight and positioning of the 2 CV Concept
At 3.76 metres long, the concept is shorter than the original 2CV, a choice intended to make driving and parking easier. It sits between the Ami and the C3 in the line-up and is designed to comply with the new European E-Car regulations.
Engineers are aiming for a weight of one tonne. Less mass allows a smaller, cheaper battery, with a range tailored to daily use and low running costs. To ease mass production and repair, the body uses flat surfaces, direct air intakes beneath the windscreen and bumpers separate from the bodywork that can be replaced independently. Partner Michelin contributes its universal tyre digital twin, which continuously monitors tyre condition so the vehicle can adapt its behaviour to its surroundings.
Exterior design draws on the original 2CV
Familiar proportions and curves carry over, with tauter lines. Round headlamps stand apart from the bodywork, joined by an LED signature, a sweeping bonnet, exposed windscreen wipers and 19-inch steel wheels on Michelin tyres bearing the Heritage logo. A black tailgate runs down to the bumper, and the number plate displays nicknames different countries gave the 2CV. The exterior is finished in Infra Red, an orange base with yellow and red highlights.
Interior layout and technology
Inside there is no traditional dashboard. A cylinder carries a single-spoke steering wheel, a single control lever, a paddle-shift gear selector and a Citroën Smart Vision display. An 8-inch square touchscreen uses comic-book graphics, while the detachable Radioën doubles as a speaker outside the car.
Seats with Citroën Advanced Comfort technology are trimmed in a yellow tartan reworking of a 2CV motif. A removable basket of wood and bio-based plastic, made by 3D printing, replaces the centre console, door handles are soft straps and a fabric sunroof lets in light.

Production plans and target price
The production model will be manufactured in Europe with a target starting price of around €15 000. Citroën plans to unveil it within two years, ahead of its arrival in the range by 2028.
