- UK car and van registrations up 41%.
- Indexed Google search share up 187%.
- 2CV Concept revealed at Paris Motor Show.
- Fully electric, 3.76 metres, around one tonne.
- Production model due by 2028.
Public and media reaction to the 2CV Concept, revealed at the 2026 Paris Motor Show earlier in October, has been strongly positive, according to new data from Citroën. The response follows the return of one of motoring’s most recognisable names, this time as a fully electric car.

Citroën 2CV Concept search and media response
In the period after the show, the brand recorded a 187% year-on-year increase in its indexed share of Google search. Media coverage described the concept in terms including “cute”, “friendly”, “charm”, “freedom” and “optimism”.
According to the carmaker, the reaction is not driven by nostalgia alone. It points to an appetite for cars that are simple, accessible and full of personality, and has brought some joie de vivre back to the conversation around electric mobility.
What the electric 2CV Concept previews
The concept is a fully electric reinvention of the original 2CV and previews a production model due by 2028. It measures 3.76 metres in length, and a weight of around one tonne allows for a smaller battery.
Rather than recreate the original, the aim was to reinvent the qualities that made it successful, namely simplicity, accessibility, practicality and freedom. Those qualities are being translated into an affordable electric car for a new generation.

Citroën sales growth in the UK
The attention arrives during a strong year in the UK, where Citroën car and van registrations were up 41% year-on-year at the end of September. Greg Taylor, Managing Director of Citroën UK, credited current models for much of that growth. “C3, C3 Aircross and C5 Aircross are winning over customers and helping drive sales up 41%, while the return of 2CV has brought an incredible new energy to the brand,” he said.
Taylor described the reaction since Paris as fantastic. “It’s reminded people that Citroën can be clever and accessible, but also characterful, optimistic and fun for the family,” he said. The next step is the production version of the electric 2CV, which is due by 2028.
