An urban upgrade for the ‘God’s Eye’ driving assistance system from DENZA, the premium brand of the BYD Group, will arrive in 2027. Called City Navigation on Driving Assistant (CNOA), it will be delivered as an over-the-air update, starting with the Z9GT grand tourer.
The system uses hardware already fitted to the car, and development and local adaptation are progressing ahead of regulatory approval and a regional rollout in Europe.
What DENZA CNOA does in town
Where standard systems handle straight-lane driving on open roads, CNOA manages point-to-point navigation through dense urban areas. Equipped cars can stop at red lights, yield at roundabout entrances, obey local speed-limit signs, perform left turns, negotiate junctions and change lanes around double-parked vehicles or slow traffic. They can also detect and give way to cyclists and pedestrians in narrow streets. The driver always remains responsible.
Stella Li, BYD Executive Vice President, said the technology “will help make urban driving less stressful, from traffic jams to busy junctions and roundabouts.”
Z9GT hardware and type approval
The Z9GT carries a single LiDAR sensor, 11 cameras, three millimetre-wave radar sensors and 12 ultrasonic radar sensors as standard. The camera set comprises four side-view, four 360° surround-view, two front and one rear unit.
According to the company, the software has reached the advanced stage of calibration and adaptation needed before seeking Type Approval under UN regulatory standard R171. That process will include monitoring of the driver’s eye gaze, head posture and hand position on the steering wheel.
DENZA Z hypercar at Paris
The announcement came at the Mondial de l’Auto in Paris, where the Z hypercar made its EU-show debut alongside the BAO 5, Z9GT and D9. The Z Coupe, Z Spider and Z Racing were all displayed. Each uses a triple-motor layout producing 1604PS and 1240Nm, with DiSus-M magnetorheological suspension on the e 3 Sports Car Platform.
The Coupe reaches 62mph in 2.25 seconds and tops out at 186mph, while the Racing version on optional semi-slick tyres does it in 1.96sec with a 217mph top speed. FLASH Charging allows a 10% to 97% refill in nine minutes. At 4780mm long with a 2780mm wheelbase, the car seats four, and boot space in the Coupe and Racing is 250 litres, rising to 550 litres with the rear seats folded.
When CNOA becomes available
The God’s Eye city features are due in 2027 via an over-the-air update on the Z9GT, subject to Type Approval and regional rollout.
