Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa has a new person in charge of telling the story of its vehicles locally, with the appointment taking effect on 1 October. Geoff Lourens reports to Ford Southern Africa Communications Director Dustin Chick and will lead the company’s product and lifestyle communications in South Africa.
In the role, he will work with media, influencers and creators to present Ford’s vehicles as reliable partners in the resilient South African lifestyle.
Geoff Lourens career in motoring and finance
The new manager brings more than 15 years of experience across the automotive and financial services sectors, covering brand, marketing, strategy and communications. Most recently, he served as Brand Manager at iCAUR South Africa, where he supported that brand’s entry into the local market.
Jaguar Land Rover work across several regions
Earlier, at Accenture Song and Spark44, Lourens held senior communications and strategy roles on Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) and its house of brands, namely Jaguar, Defender, Range Rover and Discovery. That work took him across South Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East and Latin America.
His projects included new model introductions as well as the ongoing communications that keep established nameplates relevant. According to Ford, this gave him a broad perspective on integrated communications, media engagement and brand storytelling.
Ford and Lourens on the appointment
Chick said the stories told about Ford’s vehicles “should be as strong as the products themselves”, adding that Lourens “will help us tell those stories well, from the vehicles customers already drive to those still to come.”
For his part, Lourens pointed to the brand’s long local history. “Ford has been part of South Africa’s story for more than a century,” he said, describing that history as a commitment to the country and its people, built over generations. He sees product communications as connecting Ford’s heritage, the capability of its current vehicles and the role the company will play in South Africa’s future.
