Businesses in distribution, logistics and freight have a new option from Hyundai Automotive South Africa, which has launched the Mighty GT11 heavy-commercial truck as it expands its presence in the local commercial vehicle market. The launch took place at the Zwartkops Racing Track in Centurion, and the company is positioning the truck around total cost of ownership, with fuel efficiency, residual values and parts availability central to its case.

Hyundai Mighty GT11 engine and transmission
Power comes from a 3 760 cc Cummins four-cylinder turbodiesel producing 125 kW and 600 N.m. Peak torque arrives between 1 300 r/min and 1 700 r/min, which gives the truck its low-speed pulling ability. Drive goes through a ZF six-speed automated manual transmission that changes gears automatically.
Payload, axles and brakes
The GT11 offers a 6-ton payload capability and an 11 000 kg Gross Vehicle Mass, leaving 7 780 kg for body and payload. Its Gross Combination Mass is rated at 15 500 kg. Underneath sit a 7 600 kg full-floating rear axle and multi-leaf rear suspension.
Stopping is handled by a dual-circuit full air brake system with ABS and a spring-operated parking brake. Inside, the three-seat cab has air conditioning and dual front airbags.

Aftersales support for Hyundai truck operators
According to Stanley Anderson, CEO of Hyundai Automotive South Africa, the ownership-cost approach is intended to give operators more predictable running and maintenance costs. “We want to build a meaningful presence and earn the trust and confidence of commercial operators,” he said.
Uptime is a key part of the plan, supported by the brand’s national service network in South Africa. Johan Nel, Sales Director, said the GT11 is backed by Hyundai’s warranty protection, trained technicians and genuine parts. “Downtime has a direct impact on a business, which is why aftersales support is a critical part of our overall commercial vehicle strategy,” he said. Pricing has not been announced, and operators interested in the truck can contact Hyundai Automotive South Africa for details.
