- Exhibition runs from 19-21 October.
- Around 200 new manufacturing technologies on display.
- Focus on software-defined factories (SDFs).
- Held at Uiwang Research Institute.
- Conference and partner seminars also planned.
Software-defined factories (SDFs) are the theme of this year’s E-FOREST TECH DAY, the smart factory exhibition hosted by Kia Corporation and Hyundai Motor Company. It runs from 19-21 October at the Kia and Hyundai Motor Uiwang Research Institute.
Now in its seventh year, the event shares technologies developed by the Manufacturing Solution Division of the two carmakers and their partner companies. E-FOREST is the smart factory brand of Kia and Hyundai Motor, connecting every stage of production and applying automation using artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics, along with human-friendly smart technologies.

Software-defined factory technologies on display
By building a unified data collection and management framework and a common development environment, the companies aim to develop and roll out solutions tailored to manufacturing sites. Visitors will see progress on SDF development, including quality inspection systems, and a rollout plan based on standardised technologies that can be applied quickly to plants in Korea and overseas.
Digital twin technology is among the highlights. It runs simulations based on actual factory equipment in a virtual space to tackle problems before they occur in the real world. AI agents built for factory work, covering data retrieval and interpretation, manufacturing know-how search and equipment manual creation, will also be shown.
Automation, energy and future mobility
Assembly and inspection automation takes centre stage in a separate area. One example is a tunnel-type exterior inspection vision system that checks a vehicle’s exterior through 3D simulation. Kia and Hyundai Motor developed it in place of third-party systems and plan to apply it to plants in Korea and overseas.
Smart energy solutions for eco-friendly factory operation will feature too, as will new forming technologies and additive manufacturing that develops shapes from design data without the need for moulds.

Conference and partner seminars at E-FOREST TECH DAY
A new manufacturing technology presentation conference will highlight cases aimed at making global production plants more competitive, while partner seminars will cover physical AI, data-driven manufacturing innovation and manufacturing AI. Hyun Chul Cho, Vice President and Head of E-FOREST Strategy Group, Hyundai Motor Group, said the companies “will keep working to expand the use of these new technologies in our production plants and put them into practice on the factory floor.” The exhibition opens on 19 October and closes on 21 October.
