For the first time in its 59-year history, Mercedes-AMG has developed a full-size SUV in-house and from the ground up. The GT SUV is the second model built on the AMG.EA high-performance architecture, after the recently unveiled AMG GT 4-Door Coupé, and comes in three versions: GT 63, GT 55 and GT 53.
Its design pairs a low silhouette and sporty seating position with a low centre of gravity, while a flat battery keeps headroom, interior space and ground clearance intact.

Mercedes-AMG GT SUV motors and performance
In the GT 63, three axial flux motors deliver up to 860 kW (1,169 hp), while the GT 55 produces up to 600 kW (816 hp). The entry-level GT 53 uses two synchronous motors, one on each axle. Continuous output reaches up to 530 kW. The flagship covers 0 to 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds and 0 to 200 km/h in 6.8 seconds, with a top speed of 270 km/h when fitted with the Driver’s Package.
800-volt battery and charging times
Power comes from the AMG High Performance Electric Battery, an 800-volt pack based on Formula 1 technology with directly cooled cylindrical cells to keep output available under sustained load. Two sizes are offered. The 106 kWh battery accepts up to 600 kW DC and adds up to 380 kilometres of WLTP range in ten minutes, while the 128 kWh unit charges at 710 kW, adding up to 450 kilometres in the same time.
A 10 to 80 per cent charge on the larger pack takes up to 12 minutes. At a 400 kW station, the figures are 14 minutes and 16 minutes respectively. Combined energy consumption is 23.8 to 21.2 kWh/100 km for the 63 and 55, and 21.1 to 18.8 kWh/100 km for the 53.
Suspension, sound and active aerodynamics
New AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL+ suspension adds active pitch and roll stabilisation. The AMGFORCE Sport+ programme reproduces V8 or six-cylinder engine sound, simulated gear changes and seat shakers, and AMG RACE ENGINEER uses three rotary controls to adjust responsiveness, cornering and wheel slip. Up to 150 km/h, an AEROKINETICS Airpanel reduces drag, and above that speed an active roof spoiler deploys for stability and traction. Stefan Weckbach, chairman of Mercedes-AMG, summed up the car as “SUV by shape. GT by nature.”
