Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has won a Europe-wide tender covering 2026 and 2027 to supply Miele with new service vans. The order consists of 840 Transporter vans fitted with professional vehicle racking from Sortimo, to serve domestic and commercial customers across Europe.
Just over half of the vehicles, 440 vans, will be deployed in Germany.

Miele electric share in customer service
The biggest change comes in Professional Customer Service, where almost all of the 420 staff members will be equipped with battery-electric Transporter vans. That gives the unit an electric share of almost 100 per cent. In Domestic Customer Service, battery-electric vehicles currently make up around 30 per cent of the fleet, a figure set to rise as older vehicles are gradually replaced.
“The electrification of our vehicle fleet is a key component of our company’s sustainability strategy,” said Rebecca Steinhage, Executive Director Human Resources & Corporate Affairs at Miele. Because the service vehicles are on the road every day, they offer an effective way of cutting direct CO₂ emissions and replacing fossil fuels with electricity.
Sortimo racking and energy consumption
Energy use depends not only on the powertrain but also on the weight, equipment and operating profile of each vehicle. Sortimo’s racking provides a lightweight yet secure way to carry tools and spare parts, and less weight means lower energy consumption, an important factor for battery-electric vehicles.
Lars Krause, Member of the Board of Management for Sales, Marketing and Aftersales at VWCV, described the continued partnership as “a strong vote of confidence in Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles and the e-Transporter”.

Lessons from the ID. Buzz fleet
Miele already runs a range of vehicles with alternative powertrains, including the ID. Buzz. Findings on range, charging times, energy consumption and everyday suitability, together with feedback from technicians, were fed directly into the requirements for the new generation of vans.
For the service teams, the electric drive makes stop-and-go traffic easier to handle, while pre-conditioning allows the cabin to be heated while the van is still connected to the charging infrastructure. Assistance and safety features and the ergonomic racking complete the specification.
