Three derivatives make up the all-new Lexus ES range introduced in South Africa: the ES 350h EX, ES 350h SE and ES 350e SE. The two 350h models use a 2.5-litre self-charging hybrid system, while the ES 350e SE is the first fully electric ES offered in the local market.
For the first time, buyers of the luxury sedan can choose between hybrid-electric and battery-electric power.

Lexus ES size and design
The eighth-generation car measures 5,140 mm long, 1,920 mm wide and 1,555 mm high, or 1,560 mm for the ES 350e. Its 2,950 mm wheelbase is 80 mm longer than before, overall length has grown by 165 mm and width by 55 mm. The space between front and rear seat occupants has increased by 77 mm to 1,102 mm.
Lexus calls the design approach “Clean Tech x Elegance”. The Spindle Body now runs across the bonnet and into the bumper, framed by the Twin L Signature Lamp, and the rear carries the Lexus ICON lighting signature. Semi-flush door handles and an electric pop switch lid also appear. Hybrid models ride on 19-inch wheels, the electric version on 21-inch items, and six colours are offered.
Hidden Switches and cabin features
Inside, a 12.3-inch TFT LCD meter sits alongside a new multimedia interface and the Electro-Shiftmatic shifter. The Lexus-first Hidden Switches stay invisible beneath the dashboard upholstery until the car is started, then illuminate while keeping tactile feedback.
Depending on grade, equipment includes heated and ventilated front seats, a panoramic roof, a digital inner mirror and wireless charging. SE grades add Bamboo Layering, active noise control, a Head-Up Display, Panoramic View Monitor and Automatic Parking.
Platform, suspension and safety systems
A redesigned global architecture-K platform accommodates both powertrains, with front and rear tracks wider by 64 mm and 82 mm. MacPherson struts sit up front, and a multi-link rear, a first for the ES, is paired with variable-gear rack steering. Lexus Safety System+ 4 is joined by a Driver Monitor Camera and Front Cross Traffic Alert.

ES 350h EX specification
At the entry point, the ES 350h EX drives its front wheels through an E-CVT. The petrol engine makes 139 kW and 235 Nm, with total system output of 182 kW. Standard kit includes Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Parking Support Alert Brake, Integrated Sport Driving with three modes plus Custom, LED headlamps and heated, auto-retractable mirrors. The range is available now from Lexus South Africa dealers.
