Nissan’s performance brand NISMO has opened its first Performance Centre outside Japan, at Ferntree Gully Nissan in Victoria, Australia. For South African Nissan and GT-R owners, the move shows how NISMO plans to take its parts, restoration and technical services into priority markets beyond Japan. The announcement does not mention South Africa.
Enthusiasts and fans gathered at the dealership on Sunday for the official opening of the NISMO Performance Centre Melbourne. It is the first step in a multi-phase Australian expansion announced in May by Nissan Motorsports & Customizing Co., Ltd. (NMC) and Nissan Oceania.
What the NISMO Performance Centre offers
The centre gives Australian customers a direct connection with NISMO’s Omori Factory in Japan. It will support advanced vehicle restoration programmes, supply authentic NISMO performance and heritage parts, and be staffed by factory-certified NISMO Meisters backed by NISMO’s global expertise.
The wider Australian programme covers performance parts and accessories, heritage support, technical expertise, restoration and customer experiences. For owners of Nissan’s best-known performance vehicles, the centre also offers a pathway into NISMO’s global heritage and restoration activities.
Why NISMO chose Australia first
Yutaka Sanada, global head of the NISMO brand, joined the opening through a recorded message. He said Australia was “a natural priority because of its mature performance culture, strong GT-R community and clear appetite for authentic NISMO heritage, performance parts, technical expertise and motorsport-driven experiences.”
Michael Banjanin, Dealer Principal at Ferntree Gully Nissan, said the opening was a natural extension of the dealership’s connection with Nissan performance, having previously sold the GT-R. “It’s a privilege to now give that community a dedicated home through NISMO,” he said.
NISMO restoration plans and next phase
In December 2025, NISMO announced plans to significantly expand its global restoration, restomod and parts businesses, initially focusing on the Nissan Skyline GT-R R32, R33 and R34, with additional vehicles and regional programmes to follow. NMC was established in 2022 through the integration of Nissan’s motorsports and customisation subsidiaries, combining NISMO’s performance and motorsport expertise with AUTECH’s customisation capabilities.
The Melbourne centre is now open at Ferntree Gully Nissan. The Australian rollout will be phased, with additional NISMO Performance Centres due to open in the country from 2027.
