Opel has released the first images of its STX Concept, a study that sets out the German manufacturer’s view of the future of the estate car and previews the next step of its Vizor front-end design. For South African motorists following the brand, the concept gives an early indication of the styling direction future Opel models are likely to take.
The name, short for Opel S ports T ourer e X perimental Concept, was revealed only last week. The images, issued from Rüsselsheim, focus on the precision and detail of the car’s design.
Opel estate heritage and design philosophy
Opel CEO Florian Huettl pointed to the brand’s history with the body style. “We were pioneers of the estate in Europe as early as the 1950s. With the STX Concept, we want to show our vision for the future of this body style and introduce the next step of our ‘Bold & Pure’ design philosophy,” he said, adding that more details would be revealed soon.
Opel Vizor gets a new lighting signature
The most visible change shown in the images is the further development of the Opel Vizor, the brand’s characteristic front fascia. On the STX Concept it appears bolder than in previous iterations and carries a new lighting signature made up of precise vertical slanting lamellas.
The illuminated Opel Blitz emblem remains at the centre of the Opel Compass, the design element that frames the front of the brand’s current models.
STX Concept aerodynamics and wheels
Aerodynamic efficiency has long been a feature of Opel passenger cars, and the STX Concept will explore aero solutions intended to reduce consumption while also ensuring directional stability and driving pleasure at high speeds on the German Autobahn. The body uses flush surfacing, and one of the aerodynamic elements is the optimised design of the 3 section alloy wheels.
Paris Motor Show world premiere
The Opel STX Concept will make its world premiere at this year’s Paris Motor Show, which runs from October 12 to 18, 2026. Opel has not announced any production plans or South African availability for the concept, and further details are expected before the show.
