A three-motor electric concept called the E-T16 has been revealed by Peugeot to mark the 40th anniversary of the 205 T16’s double victory in the 1985 and 1986 World Rally Championships. Developed with Peugeot Sport, it produces 816 hp, making it the most powerful Peugeot in history, and it previews the next-generation E-208.
Peugeot E-T16 motors and performance
One motor sits at the front and two at the rear, giving a power-to-weight ratio of less than 2 kg per horsepower. The concept reaches 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds and 300 km/h in 16 seconds. A Torque Vectoring system splits torque in real time between the rear wheels and between the axles according to grip. Three driving modes, including Track, adjust power delivery, torque distribution and suspension settings, while a fourth can be fully customised by the driver.
Braking comes from four 380 mm discs and a vertically mounted hydraulic handbrake, as used on rally cars, with Michelin tyres 275 mm wide at the front and 315 mm at the rear. Battery cells are cooled through their side walls using Side Cooling technology derived from racing. According to Peugeot, this lets the car complete three laps of the Nürburgring Nordschleife, more than 60 km, in Performance mode with no power limitation.
Battery, range and charging
Its 800V architecture is paired with an 85 kWh battery, giving up to 400 km of WLTP combined-cycle range. Charging from 10% to 80% takes under 15 minutes.
Design references to the 205 T16
The body is finished in Winchester Matte Grey, close to the original grey, with a backlit red line running around the car in reference to the old pinstripe. The intake ahead of the rear wheel, which once fed the combustion engine, now houses the charging port, and the entire rear body section tilts open to reveal two motors and suspension parts. A horizontal three-claw light signature front and rear and a large cat-ear rear wing complete the look. “A radical design that celebrates our heritage and transforms power and sportiness into a true design language,” said Matthias Hossann, Peugeot Design Director.
Cabin previews the next E-208
Inside, a 21-inch panoramic HD display sits above the Hypersquare steer-by-wire control, inspired by the steering wheel of the 9X8 endurance racer. Here it gains a central display in the space normally used for the airbag, made unnecessary by four-point harnesses. The Feline Future design language shown on the concept will debut on the next Peugeot E-208.
