Stellantis and artificial intelligence company Wayve will offer demonstration rides in Fiat 500e and Maserati Grecale development vehicles fitted with hands-free, door-to-door supervised automated driving (Level 2++) at Wave by Vento 2026 in Turin, from 7 to 9 October. For South African motorists the technology remains some way off. The first product launch from the partnership is targeted for 2028 in North America, and the release makes no mention of plans for other markets.
Fiat 500e and Maserati Grecale demonstration rides
The development vehicles use STLA AutoDrive powered by Wayve, which integrates the Wayve AI Driver with the Stellantis STLA AutoDrive technology platform. Throughout the event, the cars will demonstrate hands-free, door-to-door supervised automated driving in real-world conditions.
The Fiat 500e and Maserati Grecale follow the Jeep Grand Cherokee development vehicle shown at Stellantis’ Investor Day in May. The three vehicles share the same core AI driving foundation across different vehicles, platforms and configurations. According to Stellantis, this means the driving intelligence does not have to be developed separately for each model, giving the group a way to bring advanced driver-assistance technology to more brands, architectures and customer profiles over time.
Filosa and Kendall discuss AI mobility
A central part of the Stellantis programme is a session titled ‘Technology Made for Humans’, a conversation between Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa and Wayve co-founder and CEO Alex Kendall. The two will discuss the future of AI-powered mobility and how strategic partnerships can speed up the development of technology intended for deployment at scale. Adam Jonas, global embodied AI and robotics strategist at Morgan Stanley, will moderate the session on 9 October at 11:20 on the Fucine Main Stage.
Stellantis and Wayve partnership timeline
Stellantis says the aim of the collaboration is to reduce the mental effort of everyday driving and make the experience more comfortable. The partnership combines Wayve’s end-to-end AI driving intelligence with Stellantis’ automotive engineering and scalable vehicle platforms, while keeping safety, trust and customer experience at the centre. The company says the approach lets it apply the technology in ways that preserve each brand’s character.
The strategic partnership was announced in May 2026 and initially focuses on hands-free, door-to-door supervised automated driving in highway and urban environments. Visitors to Wave by Vento can ride in the development vehicles from 7 to 9 October, while the first production application is targeted for North America in 2028. No South African availability has been announced.
