Zambian transport operators can now buy and service UD Trucks vehicles locally, after the brand officially launched in the country through a partnership with Imperial Motors Zambia, part of Motus Africa. The launch took place on 1 October in Lusaka, and the network spans three operational locations in Lusaka, Kitwe and Solwezi.
More than 90 guests attended the event at Imperial Motors Zambia’s Kafue Road facility, among them customers, industry stakeholders, media and senior leadership from UD Trucks and Motus Africa. Fredrick Mwalusaka, Permanent Secretary at Zambia’s Ministry of Transport and Logistics, was Guest of Honour and took part in the ribbon-cutting.
UD Trucks regional growth in Southern Africa
The move builds on the introduction of UD Trucks in Malawi in 2025, also through Motus Africa. Zambia has significant transport requirements across mining, agriculture, construction, logistics and distribution, and the partners plan to offer what they call total transport solutions, combining products, aftersales support and long-term customer relationships.
“Zambia is an important market, and our partnership with Imperial Motors Zambia provides a strong foundation for building the UD Trucks brand locally,” said Filip Van den Heede, Managing Director of UD Trucks Southern Africa.
Imperial Motors Zambia as local partner
Imperial Motors Zambia has 12 years of experience in the Zambian automotive market. The truck brand joins a portfolio that already includes Nissan, OMODA and JAECOO, and Motus Africa gives the dealer access to a wider regional automotive network.
General Manager Christophe Henning said customers need “dependable products, access to genuine parts, skilled technicians and professional aftersales support throughout their vehicles’ operating lives.”
Zambia transport and logistics ambitions
In his address, Mwalusaka pointed to the role of transport and logistics in facilitating trade and supporting agriculture, mining and manufacturing. He also spoke of the country’s potential to strengthen its position as a regional transport and logistics hub, with efficient movement of goods within Zambia and across its borders.
Plans for UD Trucks in Zambia
Over the next three to five years, Imperial Motors Zambia aims to grow its UD Trucks customer base, strengthen its market position and keep investing in facilities, technical expertise and aftersales capabilities. Operators can approach the dealer’s sites in Lusaka, Kitwe and Solwezi for vehicles, parts and servicing.
