- UD Trucks launches Service Exchange aftersales programme.
- Covers engines, gearboxes and injectors initially.
- Worn units swapped for professionally restored ones.
- One-year warranty on exchange components.
- Pricing and eligibility available from dealers.
UD Trucks Southern Africa has introduced a Service Exchange Programme that lets truck operators swap eligible worn or damaged components for professionally restored units instead of buying new replacements. For South African fleet owners, it adds a third option between repairing a failed engine, gearbox or injector and paying for a new one, with the aim of managing maintenance costs and vehicle downtime.
“At UD Trucks Ultimate Dependability is everything; it’s about delivering value beyond the initial vehicle purchase,” said Filip Van den Heede, Managing Director of UD Trucks Southern Africa.
How the UD Trucks Service Exchange works
When an eligible component needs replacing, the UD Trucks dealer assesses the vehicle and determines whether a Service Exchange unit is available and appropriate. The customer’s worn component, known as the core, is then returned in line with the programme requirements for potential restoration and future use.
The programme launches with engines, gearboxes and injectors. UD Trucks plans to add cylinder heads, starters, alternators, turbochargers and retarders in later phases. Service Exchange components carry a one-year warranty, subject to the applicable terms and conditions.
Role of the UD Trucks dealer network
Service Advisors and workshop teams can now discuss a wider range of options with customers when a major component fails, weighing vehicle application, component eligibility, availability, operating requirements and total value.
Sanjay Naipal, Aftermarket Director at UD Trucks Southern Africa, said the programme “allows us to engage with customers earlier in the repair decision and demonstrate the broader value we can provide throughout the life of their vehicle.”
Component recovery and sustainability
The programme follows a circular approach to component management. Suitable cores are recovered, professionally restored and returned to service, which reduces the need for every replacement to be a new part. UD Trucks places the programme under its Ultimate Dependability aftermarket strategy, built around Ultimate Value, Ultimate Partnership and Ultimate Performance.
Availability and pricing through UD Trucks dealers
Service Exchange is available on selected components only, and availability, eligibility, core-return requirements, pricing and warranty terms apply. Operators needing a replacement engine, gearbox or injector can contact their nearest UD Trucks dealer or Service Advisor, who can confirm whether a Service Exchange unit is available for their vehicle and supply pricing and core-return details.
