Universal Pictures has released the trailer for River, a slasher film from first-time feature writer-director Joshua Giuliano. Jane Levy, Jessica Rothe and Max Mattern play estranged siblings who return to their rural hometown after their father dies. Their plan to scatter his ashes at his favourite spot on a remote river turns into a fight for survival when a masked figure, played by Dane DiLiegro, starts hunting them.
The preview sets up the nightmare: the sun has gone down, the boat has died, there is no cell service, and someone stands staring from the shore. Universal and Blumhouse Atomic Monster acquired the movie after a screening at Midnight Madness at the Toronto International Film Festival. It comes from the producers of Backrooms and Obsession and opens only in theatres on January 15.
