Set in an alternative version of 19th-century Japan, Shadow of the Road is a tactical RPG built around a band of heroes standing against the forces of the Emperor. Their struggle sits at the centre of the story, with friendship, effort and victory driving the main characters forward as they take on imperial power.
Shown at IGN Fall Fan Fest 2026, the new trailer presents the game as if it were a shounen anime, styled as a full anime opening. Japanese hypermetal band Earthists provide the soundtrack with their song METAHOPE, while the animated sequence introduces the core cast and their fight against the Emperor’s forces.
