Jameel Motors South Africa, the official importer and distributor of Changan, has reached its first anniversary in the country. The company opened its first Changan flagship dealership a year ago with four models, no customers and a brand name few locals knew. It now sells through 40 dealerships, including flagships in Pretoria and Umhlanga, double the 20 it had at launch.
Changan sales growth and local line-up
At its Sun City launch, the company unveiled the Alsvin compact sedan, CS75 Pro mid-sized SUV, Hunter diesel and REEV double-cab bakkie, UNI-S mid-sized SUV and the Deepal S05 REEV and S07 SUVs. The Changan Star light commercial range followed in August 2026 at the Festival of Motoring at Kyalami, bringing the local offering to three brands and seven models.
Globally, Changan is one of China’s largest car makers, with 2025 sales of 2.9 million units, 1.1 million of them new-energy vehicles.
Customer satisfaction and parts supply
Marinus Venter, Country Manager of Jameel Motors South Africa, said: “A year ago we started from zero. Not a small base. Zero.” He added that year two is about “doing it properly, and that means doubling.”
According to the company, 94% of its customers would recommend Changan, and its customer satisfaction score stands at 92%. A parts fill rate of 90% means nine out of every ten parts are in stock in South Africa. Locally produced TV commercials, product material and dealer training form part of its approach.
Community projects and sponsorships
In the 2026 Seven7 Drive, a childhood cancer awareness initiative, a Changan Hunter covered 5 000 km over seven days through seven provinces, visiting eight hospitals and more than 200 children living with cancer. The brand also sponsors the SA Padel Open Tour and was headline sponsor of the 2026 Con Spirito national arts competition.
With Lindenberg Racing, it entered vehicles in the Simola Hillclimb in Knysna in May 2026. Further support went to RADA’s MiPad initiative against period poverty, Landmark Rewilding and fire relief efforts in Mossel Bay.
New Changan models due in 2027
Several new models, some shown at the 2026 Paris Motor Show, are expected in South Africa in 2027. These include the all-electric Nevo Q05 and Lumin, a facelifted CS75 Pro and an updated Deepal S07, which will add a plug-in hybrid variant. The stated goal for that year is to triple sales and improve customer service.
