Colour analysis, a technique more commonly used by stylists in the fashion industry, is being applied to car buying by Fiat. The brand has launched a colour-matching service that identifies which car shades best complement a person’s features, timed to celebrate the launch of the new Fiat 500 Hybrid.
Described as science-backed, the approach is designed to find the shades that create the most harmonious and flattering look for an individual. Motorists can now use the same method when choosing the colour of a new car.

How the Fiat colour consultation works
Each consultation and guide draws on established colour analysis techniques, which place people in one of six tonal palettes, namely light, deep, warm, cool, clear and soft. The service has been developed with Colour Me Beautiful, whose stylist and colour expert Vicky Booker said: “Choosing a car is a deeply personal decision, but many of us focus on practicality before thinking about whether its colour truly reflects who we are.”
What the survey of 2,000 adults found
A OnePoll.com study of 2,000 adults found that 22 per cent have little to no idea which colours suit them, even though 72 per cent feel more confident wearing shades that complement them. Sixty per cent said the colour of their car was important when they bought it, more than half (51 per cent) said their vehicle reflects who they are, and 40 per cent see it as an extension of their appearance.
Black was the most common car colour among respondents at 22 per cent, followed by blue (18 per cent) and grey (15 per cent). Wardrobes follow a similar pattern, with 66 per cent wearing black most often, ahead of blue (60 per cent) and white (29 per cent). In all, 82 per cent admitted they choose neutral colours at least some of the time because they are the safer option, while 43 per cent called their car ultimately a practical purchase and 27 per cent regard it as nothing more than a way of getting from A to B.
Fiat and its pledge on grey cars
The campaign continues the Italian brand’s focus on colour and self-expression, following its pledge in 2023 to no longer produce grey cars. Kris Cholmondeley, managing director of FIAT UK, said: “There’s enough grey in the UK skies and on the UK roads, we want to stand out, bring joy to our customers and to the UK roads.”

Competition on FIAT UK’s Instagram
In the United Kingdom, 20 people can win a complimentary one-hour virtual colour consultation and a personalised pocket guide. Entry is through a competition hosted on FIAT UK’s Instagram account.
