- Up to 115 km electric range.
- 3 500 kg braked towing capacity.
- Priced at R914 900.
GWM South Africa has expanded its P300 bakkie range with the P300 2.0T Pioneer Hi4-T PHEV, the first electrified derivative in the line-up. For local buyers it means a double-cab bakkie that can cover daily commutes on electric power alone while keeping low-range four-wheel drive and a 3 500kg braked towing capacity.

GWM P300 PHEV powertrain and modes
The plug-in hybrid pairs a hybrid-dedicated 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine, producing 180kW and 380Nm, with a nine-speed automatic transmission that houses a 130kW electric motor producing 495Nm. Combined system output is 310kW and 750Nm. The engine and motor work in parallel, so the engine continues to drive the wheels when battery charge is low.
Drivers can choose Electric, Hybrid and Intelligent modes. Intelligent Mode maintains the state of charge between 30% and 80%, and includes a Camping Mode that reserves battery capacity for powering appliances off grid.
Battery, range and charging
Power is stored in a 33.1kWh lithium iron phosphate battery that gives an electric-only range of up to 115km (NEDC). Combined fuel consumption is rated at 2.4L/100km. DC fast charging at up to 110kW takes the battery from 30% to 80% in about 18 minutes at normal temperatures. The frame-mounted pack is IP68 rated, and Vehicle-to-Load supplies up to 6kW when parked and 4kW on the move through two outlets.
P300 PHEV off-road and towing ability
The bakkie retains a body-on-frame chassis, double-wishbone front suspension and a rigid rear axle with 3+2 leaf springs. A part-time system offers 2H, 4H and 4L, with a 2.64:1 low-range ratio, and an electronically controlled rear differential lock is standard. Ground clearance is 200mm, with approach, departure and breakover angles of 26, 23 and 19 degrees. A Trailer Driving Mode activates automatically when a trailer is connected.
Floyd Ramabulana, Head of Marketing at GWM South Africa, said: “This is a bakkie that can commute on electricity during the week, tow 3 500kg at the weekend and power a campsite when it gets there.”

Cabin, safety and price in South Africa
Inside is a 15.6-inch touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, heated and ventilated leather-trimmed front seats, a sunroof and a 50W wireless charger. Level 2 driver assistance, a 360° camera with Transparent Chassis View and six airbags are standard.
The P300 D-CAB 2.0T Pioneer Hi4-T PHEV costs R914 900. It comes with a 7-year/200 000km warranty, an 8-year/150 000km high-voltage battery warranty, a 7-year/75 000km service plan and 7-year/unlimited-kilometre roadside assistance, with services every 12 months or 15 000km.
