It took 73 days on the road, 52 destinations, 131 vehicles and 394 people for Jetour’s Africa Expedition documentary journey to cross the continent and reach South Africa, which served as its final destination. The 12 030 kilometre trip across the African continent finally came to an end in Cape Town.
Along the way, a team made up of a photographer, producer, director, videographer, drone operator, technical advisor and expedition driver tested the vehicles across varied terrain while filming and documenting the experience.

Jetour vehicles on the South African leg
In South Africa, the expedition ran over 15 days from Johannesburg to Ballito, then on to Sani Pass and Lesotho, East London, Shamwari, Knysna, George, Oudtshoorn, Swartberg Pass and Swellendam before finishing in Cape Town. Three Jetour T2 Odysseys made the trip, joined by the G700 and F700, both yet to be launched locally.
The route took the convoy from urban Johannesburg through the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, the Indian Ocean coastline and the Drakensberg, then across the Eastern Cape wilderness, the Garden Route and the mountains, vineyards and Atlantic coastline of the Western Cape.
Snowed in at Sani Pass
A powerful cold front brought rain, snow, slippery mountain roads and bitter temperatures into Lesotho. Sani Pass was closed, and the team spent three days snowed in at Sani Mountain Lodge.
“Weather changed plans, available light determined some of our stops, wildlife halted our convoy,” said lead photographer Craig Kolesky, adding that the crew relied on real roads, real weather, real accommodation and a small production footprint.
Travel+ philosophy and community projects
The brand’s Travel+ philosophy holds that meaningful journeys are shaped by connections with local cultures, nature and ways of life, with the vehicle becoming part of the travel experience rather than only a means of transport. During the trip, support went to young surfers in KwaZulu-Natal, a remote community in Lesotho and wildlife conservation efforts in the Eastern Cape.
Shaun Steynberg, Head of Marketing for Jetour South Africa, said travel “has never been only about getting from one place to another” and that ending the expedition in South Africa provided the final chapter.
