Owners have rated the MGS5 EV the most reliable small family electric SUV in the What Car? Reliability Survey 2026, conducted in association with Motoreasy. The MG5 electric estate finished third among all electric cars in the same survey, which drew 39,332 responses from UK vehicle owners over 24 months and covered 225 models and 30 brands.
MG named most-improved brand
The brand was named the year’s most-improved manufacturer, placing ninth out of 30. Its score of 92.0%, up from 88.9% the previous year, gave MG its first top-ten finish. The survey covers cars up to five years old and looks beyond faults alone, taking account of repair costs and time off the road.

In SE Long Range form, the electric SUV offers up to 298 miles on a charge (WLTP combined). Its 64kWh battery can charge from 10 to 80 per cent in approximately 28 minutes on a suitable 150kW DC rapid charger, depending on vehicle and charging conditions.
Built on MG’s dedicated electric vehicle platform, it uses an ultra-thin battery to free up cabin space. The 453-litre boot, including underfloor storage, expands to 1,441 litres with the rear seats folded. Inside are soft-touch materials, physical controls for key functions and a 12.8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

A new parts warehouse in Daventry supports overnight deliveries to participating dealers, and first-time parts fulfilment has reached approximately 96% in 2026 to date. Around £500 000 invested in Cecil Kimber College MG Academy at Longbridge has doubled the training centre’s size and increased delegate capacity four-fold. Specialist field engineers known as “flying doctors” help dealers resolve complex faults, while an expanded replacement-vehicle programme supports eligible customers during repairs after a qualifying breakdown.
