The e-POWER system fitted to the all-new 2027 Rogue Hybrid has been named a winner of the 2026 Wards 10 Best Engines & Propulsion Systems award. The model is the first application of the technology in the United States market and, according to AutoPacific segmentation, the only hybrid in its class with a 100% electric drivetrain.
Wards uses the annual list to recognise the top powertrains in the US market for engineering, power, torque and efficiency. This is the 25th time a Nissan vehicle has been included.
How the Nissan e-POWER system works
Now in its third generation, e-POWER has been fitted to nearly 2 million vehicles sold in 68 countries since 2016. For the Rogue Hybrid, engineers tuned the system for North American driving conditions, speeds, road surfaces and customer habits.
Its 5-in-1 design uses a dedicated petrol engine that works only as a generator and shuts off entirely when the battery has sufficient charge. Two electric motors drive the wheels directly, so there is no transmission to shift. The Rogue Hybrid SR carries an estimated US EPA rating of 41 mpg city, 36 mpg highway and 38 mpg combined.
Smooth Stop and e-Pedal in traffic
Two features target stop-and-go driving. Smooth Stop automatically modulates brake pressure at the end of a stop to reduce head-toss, while e-Pedal allows one-pedal driving, slowing the SUV all the way to a full stop when the driver lifts off the accelerator.
Ponz Pandikuthira, senior vice president and chief product and planning officer at Nissan Americas, said the Rogue Hybrid combines “the functionality and technology of our best-selling Rogue with an advanced hybrid powertrain that is smoother, quicker and quieter than the competition.”
Rogue Hybrid launch and pricing in the US
Dealers in the United States receive the Rogue Hybrid in fall 2026, starting with the all-wheel drive SR with SR Technology Package in limited numbers. The full range of SV, SR and Platinum grades is expected in early 2027, with the SV priced from $35,490 MSRP, excluding destination and handling charges, tax, title, licence and options.
