Unveiled at the Paris Motor Show, the Opel STX Concept is a study of an electric estate car that also contains elements of future Opel models. The name is short for Sports Tourer eXperimental Concept. Alongside it, the German manufacturer is displaying its full range of GSE models, short for Grand Sport Electric, including the GSE 27FE Formula E racing car, the Corsa GSE and the new Astra GSE Line.
Opel STX Concept design and aerodynamics
The concept links to the brand’s Sports Tourer estates, such as the latest Astra Sports Tourer, and marks the next step in its design philosophy. It carries a more prominent Opel Vizor with light animations in curved lamellas, a steeply sloping rear and flush, precise surface lines.
An active aerodynamic system adapts continuously to the driving situation. Moving elements at the rear manage airflow, reduce drag and improve stability.
GSE 27FE Formula E racing car
Opel joins the Formula E World Championship from the coming season, and the GSE 27FE is its GEN4 race car. It has permanent all-wheel drive, more than 800 hp and recuperation output of up to 700 kW. The Opel Compass features at the front, and the livery develops the GSE design language first used on the Mokka GSE Rally. Paris is the first time it appears in its final championship colours.
Corsa GSE performance and sound
Making its exhibition debut, the Corsa GSE hot hatch uses a lowered sports chassis and produces 207 kW (281 hp) and 345 Nm, the same as the Mokka GSE. It reaches 100 km/h from standstill in 5.5 seconds, quicker than any other current production Opel, and tops out at 180 km/h. An active sports sound, developed only for this model, changes with acceleration and speed.
Astra GSE Line and Opel electric SUVs
Also on show are three electric SUVs. The Mokka GSE, with a top speed of 200 km/h, is the fastest all-electric production Opel so far. Producing 239 kW (325 hp) and up to 509 Nm, the Grandland Electric AWD is the brand’s first all-electric model with all-wheel drive, while the Frontera Electric appears in Extended Range form.
The Astra GSE Line, built in Rüsselsheim, brings GSE styling to battery-electric, plug-in hybrid, hybrid and petrol or diesel versions. The Corsa GSE is already available to order, and orders for the Astra GSE Line open in spring 2027.
