Three honours went to the Japanese carmaker in the What Car? Used Car of the Year Awards, with its approved used programme named Best Used Car Scheme in the United Kingdom. The British-built Corolla took Used Hatchback of the Year, and the GR Yaris, developed with input from the World Rally Championship team, was named Used Sports Car of the Year.

Toyota Approved Used scheme and warranty
Judges looked for a scheme that covers older cars, offers strong EV and hybrid cover, includes a full mechanical check and provides good breakdown cover. Mark Pearson, What Car? Used Cars Editor, said it “won primarily because it offers its potential 10-year warranty and is open to all used Toyotas”, adding that it “stands supreme thanks to its 145-point check and 15-year, unlimited-mileage hybrid battery cover.”
Beyond the 145-point technical check, every car undergoes hybrid health, mechanical, engine and battery condition checks. Buyers receive 12 months of full roadside assistance, including breakdown and recovery at home or on the road, plus a safety kit in the boot. The Toyota Approved Warranty is renewed with each qualifying service at an approved dealer until the vehicle reaches 10 years of age or 100,000 miles.
Complementary 24/7 accident care is also provided, along with a 30-day or 1,000-mile exchange policy, whichever occurs first. The award was shared with sister brand Lexus, and it is the second year in succession the two have received it, after being honoured for their warranty scheme in 2025.
Corolla hatchback repeats its win
Celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, the Corolla is a repeat winner of the hatchback title. What Car? called it a “terrific family car that’s good to drive, well-built and generously equipped”, and highlighted its comfort, practicality and the “impressive economy” of the hybrid powertrain. According to the judges, it is excellent value for money when bought used, undercutting many rivals.
GR Yaris honoured for driving thrills
Also a winner for a second year running, the GR Yaris was judged to have few rivals of any size or power for “pure driving thrills”. The magazine described it as a “delight on nearly any road” and said current used prices represent a “healthy saving”.
That value is matched to solid build quality, reliability and a warranty of up to 10 years or 100,000 miles. Terms and conditions apply, with details available on the Toyota UK approved used website.
