Directed by Phuong Mai Nguyen, the animated romance In Waves tells a true story set in sun-soaked Southern California. Will Sharpe voices AJ, a reserved Los Angeles high school student who spends his days drawing and skateboarding with friends. Stephanie Hsu plays Kristen, an energetic surfer who finds joy and freedom in the ocean. Their first meeting sparks curiosity that grows into deep love.
This trailer follows Kristen as she teaches AJ to surf and shares the sport’s historical connection to Hawaiian culture. As they grow closer, he is inspired to preserve their bond by drawing their story. The 91-minute drama explores finding a soulmate and living life to the fullest. South African viewers can stream it on Netflix from 11 December.
