At the 2026 naamsa Accelerator Awards, powered by WesBank, Haval was named New Energy Achiever of the Year: New Vehicle Sales, one of three honours collected by GWM South Africa across the new-energy and passenger categories. The awards were presented during SA Auto Week at the Durban International Convention Centre, the industry’s annual gathering of government, manufacturers and investors.

GWM award winners in South Africa
Alongside the brand award, the Haval H6 Plug-in Hybrid received the New Energy Vehicle of the Year: Plug-in Hybrid New Vehicle Sales award. The GWM Tank 300 completed the set as Passenger Biggest Achiever of the Year: New Vehicle Sales.
All three fall within naamsa’s New Vehicle Sales categories, which recognise brand and model performance in the South African market. Conrad Groenewald, Chief Operating Officer at GWM South Africa, said: “Recognition from naamsa is based on what South Africans are actually buying, so these awards say a lot about the confidence customers have placed in our vehicles.” He added that the new-energy wins show “electrification is something buyers are choosing today.”
SA Auto Week 2026 in Durban
This was the fifth edition of SA Auto Week, held under the theme Transforming Tomorrow Today. Convened by naamsa with the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition and the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government, it brought together government, manufacturers, labour and investors to discuss policy, investment, the energy transition and the long-term competitiveness of the local automotive sector.
On its stand, GWM displayed the ORA 5 in internal-combustion form next to the recently launched Tank 500 3.0L.

GWM vehicles on the NEV Road Trip
The company also took part in the SA Auto Week NEV Road Trip. A battery-electric ORA 5 drove from Cape Town to Durban, while a Haval H7 PHEV made the journey from Johannesburg.
Covering different terrain and distances, the two routes were intended to show how battery-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles handle long-distance travel in real South African driving conditions, in line with the brand’s multi-energy approach of offering a range of powertrain choices to local customers.
