Chery Group will start building cars in South Africa with the new C4 from OMODA, which is set to roll off the line at the group’s Rosslyn plant in Gauteng. The crossover will be sold locally from 2027 in petrol, hybrid and fully electric form.
Local production is also expected to support the growth of the domestic supplier base.

Rosslyn plant and localisation plans
The group completed its acquisition of Nissan South Africa’s Rosslyn manufacturing facility earlier this year. Preparations now include planned infrastructure and utility upgrades, along with a localisation programme meant to develop South African suppliers and raise the share of locally sourced components used in vehicle manufacturing.
“Investing in local production is a decision about the kind of business we want OMODA & JAECOO to become in South Africa,” said Shannon Gahagan, Head of Brand and Marketing for OMODA & JAECOO South Africa. She added that the C4 “will give us a place in the country’s manufacturing industry”.
OMODA C4 powertrains for South Africa
Buyers in South Africa will be offered three types of drive: petrol (ICE), hybrid (HEV) and fully electric (BEV). The spread lets customers pick a powertrain to suit how they drive and whether they have access to charging.
C4 design and cabin technology
First revealed as the C3, the model was developed with younger buyers in mind. Its Cyber Mecha styling brings angular bodywork, a sculpted side profile and a distinctive lighting signature to the brand’s crossover line-up.
Inside, a wraparound cockpit carries the same theme, with the focus on connectivity and everyday convenience. Features shown internationally include a 13.2-inch central display, a 540-degree panoramic camera system and 50 W wireless charging.
Price and launch timing to follow
Final specifications, pricing and launch timing for the South African range have not been released. OMODA & JAECOO South Africa says these details will be announced closer to the car’s local introduction in 2027.
