Peugeot has added a new 2.2-litre Multijet turbodiesel derivative to its Landtrek bakkie range. The engine produces 147 kW and 450 Nm, and the update also brings a higher towing capacity, revised cabin technology and additional safety and driver assistance features.
In South Africa, the new engine is offered in the Landtrek Double Cab Allure and 4Action derivatives, with sales starting in October 2026. Peugeot South Africa says the new derivatives reflect its focus on strengthening its position in the one-ton bakkie segment, while retaining the practicality and capability of the existing Landtrek.
Landtrek 2.2-litre engine and towing
The 2.2-litre Multijet turbodiesel is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission operated by an electronic gear selector, or e-shifter. Compared with the current 1.9-litre turbodiesel engine, the new powertrain produces 37 kW more power and 100 Nm more torque.
The extra output brings a higher rating for those who tow. Maximum towing capacity rises from 3 000 kg to 3 500 kg, an increase of 500 kg over the 1.9-litre model.
Cabin and safety updates in the Landtrek
Inside, the Landtrek gains an updated digital instrument cluster and a revised infotainment system. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now available, and an electronic parking brake has been added. New driver assistance systems include Lane Departure Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control and Blind Spot Detection.
Moeketsi Mapogo, Brand Head: Pro One LCV at Stellantis South Africa, said the changes were chosen with daily use in mind. “We know our customers rely on their bakkies every day, so we’ve focused on the updates that will make the biggest difference in how they use them,” he said. “The result is a Landtrek that stays true to its strengths while offering customers even greater value.”
Landtrek price and availability in South Africa
