Jaguar has revealed the Type 01, a luxury electric four-door grand tourer and the first production car from the brand’s reinvented line-up. The announcement, issued by Jaguar South Africa in Pretoria on 7 October 2026, gives local buyers a first look at the model on which Jaguar is rebuilding the marque.
The Type 01 is the first Jaguar production car developed under the brand’s exuberant modernist design philosophy. It sits on a new electric-only body architecture, called JEA, which is unique to Jaguar and was designed, developed and built in the UK. Jaguar says the car is its most technically advanced to date, with more than 360 patent applications.
Jaguar Type 01 design and aerodynamics
The car has a low roofline, short front overhang, long bonnet, extended rear overhang and 23-inch wheels. Active Vanes, a three-stage deployable spoiler and airflow optimisation give a drag coefficient of 0.23, making it the most aerodynamic Jaguar yet. Buyers can choose gloss colours or satin finishes, and the leaper badge appears on an exterior Fender Ingot.
Tri-motor power and performance
Three electric motors with Intelligent Torque Vectoring produce up to 757 kW and 1 365 Nm, making the Type 01 the most powerful Jaguar road car. It reaches 100 km/h from rest in 3.2 seconds and accelerates from 100 km/h to 180 km/h in 4.0 seconds. Weight distribution is 50:50, and the car offers two driving characters. Jaguar says know-how from its Jaguar TCS Racing Formula E team, a double world champion, helped tune the car.
Battery, range and charging
An 850-volt architecture and 118 kWh usable battery give an anticipated EPA range of up to 644 km and up to 720 km on the WLTP cycle, with a sustained highway range of up to 514 km. Using 350 kW DC rapid charging, up to 321 km of range can be added in as little as 13 minutes.
Type 01 cabin, screens and sound system
Inside, a central spine runs the length of the cabin, dividing it into four individual spaces, flanked by brass-effect anodised aluminium finishers. A 24-inch single glass OLED Interactive Driver Display sits ahead of the driver and runs the new Jaguar Infotainment system, while a seven-inch smartphone-style touchscreen between the front seats handles key functions. The Jaguar Immersive Sound System includes Sensory Audio seats and a full-width, full-range Panoramic Soundbar.
“Type 01 distils the essence of Jaguar into a car for a new era,” said Rawdon Glover, Managing Director of Jaguar. The release does not include South African pricing or a local launch date.
