This comes after failure of two units occurred at a power station during the course of Wednesday evening.
This was necessary due to breakdowns of five generators at five power stations, said Eskom.
Due to lower weekend demand load shedding will be suspended at midnight on Friday.
The utility attributes the extension of load shedding to a persistent shortage of generation capacity.

As of the start of this week, the country has experienced 1,949 hours (81 days) of national load shedding in 2022.
The extended load shedding is required due to shortage of generation capacity as a result of high levels of breakdowns.
At stage 8 load shedding the outages would last anywhere between 12 and 16 hours.
The utility is struggling with one of its power stations, resulting in three units being shut down, with four units coming offline shortly.
Unless South Africa aggressively invests in renewable energy and relaxes air quality, Eskom might need to implement stage 15 load shedding.

The highest stages of load shedding reached is stage 6, and there are fears that stages 7 and 8 could be on the horizon as the grid remains volatile.
Overnight a unit each at Camden, Kriel and Kendal were returned but unfortunately had to take off a unit at Duvha which developed a boiler tube leak.
